The Croft School is a small school with one teacher and two teaching assistants. Children attend every Monday to Friday morning. The high adult to child ratio helps us to provide children with more individual support not only with their schoolwork, but also their behaviour. Every child has their own programme specific to their needs but will be involved in as many group activities as appropriate.
Early on at school, the children’s ability is assessed and work set at an appropriate level for their ability. The Teacher also contacts their own school for information about their learning level.
Literacy work with a frequent cross curricular focus to Humanities, RE and the creative arts.
Reading: focussing on key reading comprehension skills as well as working as a group discussing and analysing the story and making predictions.
Mathematics work planned to meet the individual needs of the children. This Maths work includes access to online support and activity programs such as My Maths or Education City, as well as investigative work, as appropriate.
A minimum of one weekly Science session, which comprises one key area of Science, differentiated to the level of the students. A KS3 specialised TA is available to teach and support, particularly to extend the more able and older children.
Children receive daily stickers for effort, attendance, behaviour and good language. When appropriate individual behaviour management strategies will be put into place to facilitate a child’s progress, both academically and behaviourally.
When appropriate, the teacher in charge will work with other members of the re-integration team to support the child through the re-integration process back into school. This will sometimes include weekly visits to their home school, increased as required by the individual needs of the child.
